No billing via basic insurance
But contributions from the supplementary insurance

As a federally recognized psychotherapist and for almost thirty years in private practice, I could in principle bill the basic insurance. I do not make use of this possibility – for the following reasons, which are essential for me:

Psychotherapy, as I offer it, is based on trust and the protection of the psychotherapeutic space: what is communicated, discussed and disclosed in it is without exception subject to confidentiality; it is private and none of the business of outsiders and especially insurance companies. The regular progress reports recently demanded by the basic insurances contradict this, especially because the report of an external psychiatrist is now also demanded on an alternating basis.

Health insurance benefits rightly cover the treatment of illnesses. However, mental suffering encompasses more than illnesses in the narrower sense: it can be the consequence of an upsetting life event – or the reaction to an illness-causing situation or relationship – or an unsuccessful attempt to solve a fear or a problem – or even an addiction or illness…. i.e.: Every psychotherapy aims at reducing mental suffering, but not all psychotherapeutic patients or clients are mentally ill.

Only the diagnosis of a mental illness entitles the patient to be billed by the basic insurance. However, it can also unnecessarily pathologize the patient or client – and once diagnoses have been registered with insurance companies, they are no longer deleted.

Please do not hesitate to contact me for further information prior to an initial consultation.
